The Trump movement's most telling and distinctive moments – not its most crucial, nor most harsh, nor most hazardous, nor most senseless, but perhaps its most illuminating – occurred earlier this fall. In the course of multiple weeks, the nation's leader began displaying all observers his designs for an ornate dance hall double the dimensions of the White House and then began solo dismantling the East Wing portion to build it.
He has done things 10,000 times as bad – the existing assessment of deaths due to his slashing to international aid stands at 600,000 and rising, and recently research predicted his petroleum strategies would cause deaths an additional 1.3 million. However nothing as distinctive. No previous president would have risked – genuinely, no other president would have imagined – independently wrecking major areas of the presidential residence in order to erect a royal-themed celebration hall, with the active collaboration of some of the richest Americans, almost all of whom have business with public institutions.

As confusing as it is to watch the president seek to颠覆 the established notion regarding democracy and replace it with its complete opposite, there is one large group of Americans who might not perceive it entirely new. This includes individuals like us – among senior generations a near majority – who were raised as conventional Protestant believers.
We have witnessed throughout the years as politically conservative religious groups converted the Savior we grew up with into the total contrary of our understanding of him. Essentially, they transformed an image of affection into an icon of animosity who endorses exactly the harshness that he denounced in the Gospel; this has happened more slowly, through multiple decades rather than months, yet it remains disturbing in the same ways, a confusing personal impact for countless people.
A Damaging Christianity Takes Hold
So let me first describe the Jesus from my childhood, since in theory Jesus is the center of any Christian faith, and since the quickly increasing segment of Americans might have little sense regarding him as they consider themselves skeptics or agnostics or nones. I raise no objection with these various perspectives, nor with different religions; yet I maintain that contain precious wisdom of significant worth in the Christian story.

In the fifties it was restrained by dilution – The Protestant faith was so widespread that it practically sanctified existing conditions.
A Conflict for the Highest of Us
Therefore I have felt heartened to witness the persistent defiance regarding Trump emerge over the last twelve months. It has been significant comfort to help build the campaign that has demonstrated publicly in rally after rally, and likely has encouraged electorate to turn out in significant amounts in interim political contests. We will need to persist with it, and with identical determination, with American flags at every demonstration and appeals to the best parts in US history.

America is best defended, essentially, by reference to the finest within national tradition, just as Christianity is most protected by reference to elements that cause it to be distinctive and magnificent, specifically the model of Jesus.
