The United States Vows a Substantial Aid Package, Issuing a Blunt Message to the UN.

With an announcement that combines financial support with stringent conditions, Washington has committed $2 billion for United Nations emergency relief operations. But, this funding was accompanied by a direct message for the global organization: it must "evolve or perish."

A Major Announcement During Wider Funding Cuts

The pledge was declared amid major reductions in US support of global aid. Additional reductions are also anticipated from other major contributors such as the UK and Germany.
